A Great Lesson From New York Times Bestselling Author, Michael Port

Natalie MacNeil shares advice learned from Michael Port

Today I want to ask YOU a question that New York Times bestselling author Michael Port asked a group of public speakers at the Heroic Public Speaking training he hosts with Amy Mead:

“Do you want approval, or do you want results?”

I think a lot of us get stuck in Approval-ville. And why not? Approval feels good, it’s comfortable, and it’s safe.

There’s just one BIG problem with approval, and it’s something that could be costing you success.

In today’s episode of She Takes on the World TV, I tackle this tricky subject of approval-seeking, and share how I’ve made big strides in my business in spite of not getting everyone’s approval!

We’ll also talk about:

  • What “playing small” has to do with all of this
  • The one thing you MUST do if you want big results
  • Why it is 100% completely okay if not everyone likes what you have to offer

Your actionable for today is to seriously ask yourself, “Do I want approval, or do I want results?” If it’s results you want, what are you willing to do to get them? I’d love for you to let us know in a comment below.

Remember, as you play a bigger game and try new things, there will always be a few people who say, “I don’t like it.”

That’s a part of business, and a part of life. But here’s the awesome thing:

Even without “their” approval, you can still get the results you’re dreaming of.

Cosmic hugs,

  1. Great MP question. Love his stuff (including the new speaking training), so I’m glad you incorporated him into your message here. It is so important for us to re-frame complaints/feedback and not let that influence us to play small, or stay in self doubt. Thanks for another great video!
