Lessons from Oprah Winfrey: A Tribute to the Ultimate Female Mogul

Oprah says “Until we meet again” on the final airing of The Oprah Winfrey Show

I was just 9 months old when Oprah did her first broadcast of The Oprah Winfrey Show. Yup, I have no memory of the world without Oprah. I remember thinking as a kid, “I have got to be on this show one day!” I guess I didn’t make it onto the show but I trust our paths will cross eventually. No matter what you think of this woman, the business and the brand she has built is nothing short of remarkable. There is simply no denying her power and place in the history books.

These are the powerful lessons we’ve learned with Oprah that she addressed on the emotional finale:

Everybody has a calling

“Every day I stood here I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.”

It’s never too late to start following your passion. If you don’t like the life you’re living now, change it. Big changes -even small changes -are not always easy but it’s worth it when you know you’re fulfilling a greater purpose.

Nobody but you is responsible for your life

“You are responsible for the energy you create for yourself and for the energy you bring to others.”

When I wake up in the morning I set a daily intention and do a quiet meditation to create a positive energy around my day. This routine has changed my life and I am 100% committed to bringing positive energy into other people’s lives through this blog and my other platforms. What kind of energy are you creating?

You are worthy

“Your being alive makes worthiness your birthright. You alone are enough.”

We are all guilty of self-sabotage sometimes. Us women can be especially hard on ourselves and think we are not skinny enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough, not _______ (you fill in the blank). I love that Oprah said she learned that every single person on the planet is worthy of love, happiness, and purpose. Note to self: Add “You are worthy” to daily mantras.

Be still and listen

“Your life is speaking to you. What is it saying to you?”

This was my last Oprah “aha” moment. We can get so caught up in our busy lives and all the noise around us that we don’t stop to listen enough throughout the day. And sometimes when my life is speaking to me I just ignore it and carry on even though I know that voice will just get louder. So tomorrow morning I’m going to do something to honor a “whisper” I’ve been ignoring.

Oprah Winfrey is the epitome of “taking on the world” and for that we say thank you Oprah for inspiring us to look within, climb higher and dream bigger. Have you learned any lessons from Oprah or have a memorable “aha” moment? We’d love to hear from you!

  1. I really enjoyed this article. It’s simpel but so true. I remember eharing Oprah say year’s ago that we are all where we are in our lives because we want to be there. I know it’s not that simplistic, but it did make me think about the control we do have in the choices we make as to the direction our lives take. Thanks Natalie!

    1. Thanks Amy 🙂

Yes, I really believe that. It goes with another principle that at any moment you can choose to make a change or take a different path. We have more power than we realize or choose to accept!

  2. Great tribute to her career path (so far), Natalie!  Though I haven’t always agreed with her politics, I have appreciated her example of living life to the fullest through service to others.  Memories of the lessons learned from her show will live on, and I am pretty sure Oprah’s not nearly done yet. 🙂

    1. I have disagreed with Oprah on many things too but I admire her so much as a trailblazing female entrepreneur and her commitment to empowering others. I think she’s pretty far from done too! Thanks Shannon 🙂

  3. Inspiring tribute. Oprah is truly an example and talent for women to admire and emulate. She has shared many valuable insights, experiences and lessons learned. I would say the success you have achieved through your blog and business is tremendous as well. It’s wonderful to witness the power women continue to achieve around the globe and to see them use that power to make living better for others.

    1. Thank you Kate, I appreciate the kind words 🙂 Yes, women are using their power in amazing ways to impact the lives of others and change the world. It’s so exciting!

  4. So love this Natalie. I saw an article on her final show and words yesterday and was planning to write a blog post about it but you have done it for me – totally beautifully written. We can all learn from the most powerful woman in media who has brought power to others and much happiness.

  5. Thank you Oprah- You gave more than inspiration…your presence each day gave minds the seeds of self creativity. you gave individuals words to express their own true calling.
After hearing such words as “you good for nothing…little…..” through out my childhood amongst the varying form of abuse, you gave me courage to as many follow my purpose-now as a Life Coach here in New Zealand. Gratitude of past-present and future is all anyone needs. Believe in, listen to,and love yourself and you will conquer all.

  6. Oprah is an icon! And as usual, she is full of great information and insight…these are such important lessons, and I think the most time consuming…one may learn at a different pace than others. Sometimes the most obvious is the most difficult to attain. Thank you for sharing Natalie.

  7. I was just watching OWN tonight.. Super Soul Sunday. I adore her and I am also new to your website! Glad I stumbled upon it. Great content… looking forward to learning more as I build my health coaching practice! TY!
