Building Your Business Won’t Go “According To Plan”

Build Your Business Vision

That’s right, no matter how hard you try to control all the details as you build your business, it just won’t turn out exactly as you envisioned – and that’s a good thing.

I’m all for being soulfully specific about what you want and why you want it. I write an annual MAP for my business and flirt with ambitious goals all the time. I also leave space for totally unexpected twists and turns. It’s those twists and turns that have often led to the most incredible shifts and upleveling as I build my business.

From interviewing and speaking to hundreds of successful people from around the world, a common thread I have discovered is that their careers never turned out the way they expected — they turned out way better.

In today’s episode of She Takes on the World TV I’m tackling a question from one of our readers about creating a vision for building your business, and how to roll with the waves as the unexpected happens and takes you in new directions. Watch it now:

Now I want to hear from you: How has an unexpected surprise made you shift gears while building your business?

  1. Love this, Nathalie! So true. Your business will take shape on its own as you stay true to yourself and continue to follow the path your heart leads you on. My business actually started completely intuitively! Three years ago when I thought I wanted to have a personal development blog I started a blog called Link to Yourself on Blogspot. I was too lazy to keep writing and quit, but a year or two after that I remembered my original intention and bought the domain I kept dragging my feet after that and changing my mind about what I wanted to do until I finally decided to get into action. It didn’t seem fair to let the domain go to waste (especially since I had still had 1.5 years of it to pay for – yes, I was very ambitious in the beginning!) so I started to write on it, despite the fact that, at the time, my ideas didn’t quite match the name. Well, as fate had it, over time as I kept refining my focus more and more I arrived at this intuitive living/authenticity coaching perspective that suits me perfectly and… guess what? It suits the name perfectly as well. The experience taught me not to worry about the future, but just take each day at a time and trust that the seed the Universe plants in my head as a good idea that “just feels right” is going to make sense one day in the future.
Natalie, I’m curious… what was one unexpected surprise that shifted things for you and changed how you run your business?
