One of the causes I am most passionate about is educating girls worldwide and giving them the opportunity to go to school. Sadly, there are still millions of girls who don’t receive an education and as successful women with so many opportunities we need to raise our voices for these girls. One of my favorite organizations sending girls to school all over the world is She’s the First, founded by Tammy Tibbetts who was one of She Takes on the World’s Women of the Year in 2010.
On June 10th in New York City, the GIRLS WHO ROCK benefit concert will be trying to raise at least $20,000 to sponsor 42 girls in Uganda to get an education at the Arlington Academy of Hope, which is a partner school of She’s the First. This is a life changing opportunity for these girls, especially when we’re facing these statistics:
- In Uganda, less than a 20% of girls graduate from high school
- Of the 130 million uneducated youth, 70% of those out of school are girls
- An extra year of primary school increases girls’ wages by 10% to 20% while an extra year of secondary school adds 15% to 25%
Today I’m calling on YOU to join the GIRLS WHO ROCK CLASS OF 2011 and DONATE WHATEVER YOU CAN to help these 42 deserving girls become the first in their families to graduate. I WILL MATCH YOUR DONATIONS BETWEEN NOW AND JUNE 1ST. Please click the button below to donate. Even if you can only afford to donate your coffee money today, every little bit helps! TO SWEETEN THE OFFER, IF YOU DONATE $10 OR MORE, I WILL LIST YOU HERE WITH A LINK BACK TO YOUR BUSINESS.
If you’re in New York City and want to come to the GIRLS WHO ROCK concert, you can purchase tickets here. See you on the red carpet!
