Earlier this month I asked you to recommend amazing women you know for She Takes On The World’s Women of the Year 2008. Thank you to everyone who sent in their nominations. These Women of the Year are amazing:
The Artist –Elaine Biss is an artist and the founder of Elaine Biss Designs which specializes in chic graphics and trendy web design. She has worked with high profile clients such as Dior and Le Cravatier. Elaine balances her business life with a hectic family life-she is married with 5 children and 5 dogs!
The Technologist –Sabrina Parsons is a graduate of Stanford University, CEO of Palo Alto Software, and a mom of 2. She and her husband funded and grew Palo Alto Software in the UK and then sold it to the parent company. Prior to her role with Palo Alto she co-founded Lighting Out Consulting, helping internet companies with online marketing. She has also worked with technology companies like Epinions.com and Commtouch Software and writes the blog Mommy CEO.
The Writer –Julia Temlyn is the founder of Temlyn Writing and Editing Services. Julia provides writing, editing, and proofreading services to a variety of clients and builds/moderates online communities. She also writes two blogs, Mrs. Write Right and All About Musicals. In her profile she opens by saying, “I love words. And punctuation.” There’s nothing better than making a living by doing what you love.
The Talent Seeker- Lauren Friese is the founder and president of TalentEgg.ca, which is a career website for students and recent graduates. Lauren has a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics and launched TalentEgg earlier this year as a resource for students and recent graduates who are looking for meaningful work. The 25 year old also speaks to employers about Generation-Y.
The Career Strategist -Lindsey Pollak is the author of Getting from College to Career: 90 Things to Do Before You Join the Real World. The Yale graduate is an expert on ‘Generation Y’ career development and writes about it on her blog, Lindsey Pollak Blog. She also contributes to the career section of ABC News on Campus. In Lindsey’s spare time she loves to bake cupcakes and displays her masterpieces on her website.
The Conquerer -Jennic Law is the co-founder and President of KangarooBoo, a unique online toy store featuring eco-friendly toys for kids. KangarooBoo donates 3% of every purchase to a children’s charity that the customer gets to choose. On her blog, sweetisu, Jennic describes herself as an entrepreneur, wife, mother, immigrant, and cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 24 and has been in remission since 2001. If you get a chance, read the ‘About Me’ on her blog. Her story is such an inspiration.
The Publisher-Mom -Sheri Allain started Mini Me’s Books while on maternity leave. The company publishes personalized story books for children that are customized with the names and pictures of your family members. She blogs about the joys and challenges of growing her company while her baby is growing at My Mini Me’s. Sherri has already caught the attention of celebrities like Nicole Richie and Donny Deutsch on The Big Idea.
The Do-Gooder -Jody Weiss is the founder of Peacekeeper Cause-metics, a natural cosmetics line that donates its profits to Women’s Health Advocacy and Human Rights issues. Jody herself is a survivor of domestic violence and wants to inspire and empower women while promoting her message of true beauty. Jody wants to use her entrepreneurial spirit to do good and change the world.
The Fashionista -Andrea Marron is the founder of Studio 28 Couture. The online store lets women design a custom dress that is made-to-order. Andrea was recently recognized as one of 25 entrepreneurs under the age of 25 by Business Week. She went to university for Optical Engineering but her vision and designs for Studio 28 make this engineer a true fashionista!
The Social Entrepreneuse -Jessica Flannery is the co-founder of my favorite non-profit organization, Kiva. Kiva allows people to lend money to entrepreneurs in developing countries through its powerful online lending platform. Jessica has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and passionately speaks about the power of microfinance. A portion of advertising revenue from She Takes On The World supports women entrepreneurs in developing countries through Kiva.

Emily Worden, founder of Elemental Threads, the online store that lets you create your own, unique handbags.
DJ Nelson, founder of All Diva Media, a network for women of all ages and the experiences we go through.
Alice Krause, founder of News On Women, a news blog featuring positive news that highlights the accomplishments of outstanding women.
Astrid Mueller, designer and owner of PotatoMamma Design, a wedding invitation and illustration boutique.
Melinda Nugent, founder of EJA and The Promised Ring, a jewelry company that creates environmentally and socially responsible engagement rings, wedding bands, and other jewelry.
